Today, we are going to discuss Café Latte or Latte as many people call it nowadays.
Café Latte is one of the most popular coffee drinks today and yet somewhat confusing.
So what is Latte?!
In the Italian language, Latte means milk and nothing else.
It is only in America, if you would ask for Latte you will get coffee. It is like coffee jargon in our country and our love and passion to shorten some names. In Italy, you will receive a glass of milk and nothing else. No coffee! Just keep this in mind if you are planning to travel to Italy.
Café Latte is one of the most popular and beloved coffee concoctions in the entire world, due to its perfect size and scrumptious taste. It is approximately 1/3 of coffee to 2/3 of milk, topped off with a thin layer of milk foam, that an experienced barista paints all kinds of artistry.
Tip! If your barista painted a heart with the milk foam before he passed Café Latte on to you, usually it means that he/she is very fond of you!
The name Café Latte is Italian but the actual “birth” of the drink is very uncertain, although it is almost certain that it has been originated somewhere in Europe back in the 1600s. Nobody knows for sure who was the first one to add milk to their black coffee. French have “café au lait” but that is a completely different drink.
Everything You Will Need to Make Café Latte
As with pretty much all coffee drinks you will need patience, certain equipment and very few ingredients. So let’s get brewing!
- An espresso machine
- Coffee grinder ( if you prefer to grind coffee yourself)
- Milk frother
- Milk pitcher
- 7-9 ounces of milk
- 5-0.6 ounces of grounded espresso beans
Last but not least a 10-12 ounce cup to pour your masterpiece in
Step by Step Process to Make it Perfect
Get your shot of espresso and pour it into the cup
- Steam and froth the milk in the pitcher but make sure it is not too foamy/frothy
- Pour it over the espresso almost to the brim
- Lastly, finish it with froth and serve your masterpiece, with or without sugar, as per your or your guest’s taste.
Final Thoughts on Café Latte
Did you know that you can make a tea latte?!
Well, you do now! Simply replace the espresso with an equal amount of tea and proceed as described above. And if you are using K-Cups and Keurig Machine here is the link for Twinings of London French Vanilla Chai Latte Tea.
It is as delicious as Café Latte.
During the hot summer months, make an Iced Latte. The difference would be simply frothed earlier, to let it cool down to a room temperature. After that put in some ice cubes to make espresso and milk to get cold and pour the same way as described above.
Last but not least, you can always decorate your Latte with cocoa or cinnamon powder.
The possibilities are endless!
Now that you know pretty much all you need to enjoy your Café or Tea Latte, it is time to turn on your imagination, start experimenting, and enjoying your beautiful and tasty creations!
